They typically earn around $15 per hour. While this may be better than minimum wage in some areas, it is modest compensation for work that demands both precision and emotional resilience.
The job isn’t easy. Constantly reviewing difficult or disturbing content can lead to emotional fatigue and even trauma over time.
Despite their central role in AI development, these workers rarely receive public credit or acknowledgment. Their labor remains invisible in discussions about AI breakthroughs.
This disconnect reveals a deeper paradox: advanced AI still relies on old-fashioned human effort, much of it underpaid and unrecognized.
